Sustainable City Home With Spacious Interior That Is Filled With Natural Light

This private house on a former industrial area in the centre of Leiden, Netherlands, is designed by Pasel.Kuenzel. Its design solves two main needs of city homes: light and space. The house is divided into two parts, easily recognisable due to the differences in the materials used on the facades. The first, larger, part is contains bedrooms and a living room and features very tall windows that fill the interior with natural sunlight. The second part is long and narrow and contains service areas: the bathrooms, the kitchen, the utility room and the stairway. The roof is not flat but slightly inclined to let more light into the bedrooms and allow people to watch the stars while sheltering the rooftop garden from the view of neighbours and people on the street. { Pasel.Kuenzel | Photos by Marcel van der Burg }

Patio House With The Bright Yellow Facade

S-House is located one of the island of IJburg and designed by VMX Architects. In the design two classical typologies are combined: the patio villa and the manor house, or domus. Horizontally the house has been divided in three parts. The ground floor is designed as a basement, with the entrance to the house, the storage space, and a large play and hobby room adjoining the garden. The patio with the kitchen is an open space on the first floor. The sitting room, or lounge with a view of the garden and the street, is situated above the kitchen. The top floor of the house is reserved for the bedrooms and bathroom. The facades of the S-house are clad in bright yellow tiles that clearly sets the house apart from all other houses in the same row.

Two Townhouses Half Block From the Beach – Alki Townhomes

This project by Johnston Architects PLLC consists of two townhouses located a half block from the beach. They are locate in the Alki neighborhood in Seattle. Both houses have three bedroom with two master suites and equipped by a two-car garage. Glass facade and the rooftop desks capture views of the neighborhood, Seattle’s cityscape and the beach. Master bedrooms has an access to these terraces and large glass walls so they also capture some of these views. With spacious living spaces and quality finishes such as glulam beam framing, bamboo floor, marble countertops and fir cabinetry, the Alki Townhouses are both beautiful and practical. Two Attached Houses with Smooth Cedar Skin

These two attached houses are situated in the central neighborhood of North Williams Avenue, Portland. Their footprint is very small so they gain more living space by moving vertically. The shape of the houses is simple cube with windows with a dark skin of smooth cedar. The interior of each home is composed of two distinct spatial orders. The first is a series of six rooms, offset at each half story, and smoothly joined by a series of half flight stairs forming a modified open floor plan. White oak floors, velvety white woodwork and bright walls are components and materials that was use in the interior design. These “wet” rooms define the second spatial order and are placed at the center of the open floor plan like a series of stacked rooms. Girard Townhouse is three story, 2900 square feet residence on Girard Avenue in Philadelphia. It is great example of modern urban infill construction. Girrard university is located right in front of it and add to beautiful views from the roof a remarkable collection of 19th century architecture. Besides that rooftop garden and penthouse offers of the Center City skyline. The first floor of townhouse feature a parking garage and office. The second floor is an open living area with 10 foot ceiling and wall to wall glazing. Master bedroom and bathroom as well as guest one are located on the third floor. Old House Where Rustic Meet Modern Design by Formzone

This 15th century house was renovated by interior designer Christian Speck of Formzone with modern comfort and style. The house is situated in the mountain village which was founded in 1186 and hasn’t any inhabitants for last 100 years. It has two entrances and two staircases because at the beginning two separate buildings were here. During the renovation almost nothing was changed in its exterior but the interior was made comfortable to live. Many walls were covered with wood. The furniture and storage places have white lacquered surfaces what makes interior not only cozy but modern too. Windows in the house are relatively small but installed lighting system not only give enough light but give a possibility to change a mood. The roof has two outdoor spaces with amazing stone roof views and the mountain panorama. [Formzone]

Contemporary Block House Design

This block house design is an experiment in maximizing daylight and living space in a traditional Philadelphia row house without losing privacy. Living spaces are made in double height with skylight which feeds natural light to every level of the house. The master bedroom and bath are situated on the third floor. The natural light floods them from 15′ glass block wall. The roof terrace features heightened parapet walls creating an external sunning space which remains open to the sky but private for neighbors. The house design is done on 2500 sq. ft. area and done by Moto Designshop.
