Wind Protected House with Glazed Walls

Ohana House at Niulii is one of the houses that are located on Hawaiian hilltops to catch all amazing views around but protected from constant 10-40-knot-per-hour winds. The roofs are pitched to match the angle of the hill on which the house sits, sheltering the courtyard from the elements. Large glazed walls capture not only views of beautiful nature around but also the ocean. They also make the house interior be filled with natural light during the day. The building is anchored to the land on a rock base through steel tie downs that are visually laced into the rafters and pinned into the stone foundation. [Cutler Anderson Architects]

House with Enclosed Internal Garden – Six Ramsgate by Wallflower Architecture+Design

Designed by Wallflower Architecture + Design this truly unique house occupied 855 square meters space on a 1200 square meter site. The house is located in Singapore and has plenty unusual ideas implemented in its design. The best one among these things is an internal garden. Thanks to column-free vistas the garden connects all public spaces like the entrance, dining areas, swimming pool and formal living area. The private spaces in contrary are hidden from visitor’s eyes. All the courtyards have different material finishes. That helps to maintain temperature difference between courtyards, the living, dining and pool. That difference helps to catch breezes that move around the house. The second storey of the house has solid hardwood louvers that can be adjusted by hand allow the desired amount of breeze and sunlight to filter through. [Wallflower Architecture+Design]

Holiday Weekend Retreat Design – Kangaroo Valley House

Kangaroo Valley House is on those retreat houses which are designed to fullfil their own needs. Located in Australian outback and designed by Alexander Michael for himself, the house is separated for two parts, one with the main living area, the other with two bedrooms. The Living area is basically a simple rectangular space with a polished concrete floor, eighty percent enclosed by retractable glass walls, and single-span composite timber beams supporting the sub-roof ceiling. The roof of the house is designed to partly cover twenty-seven meter long reflection pond and a terrace to create great outdoor places to relax. The region where the weekend retreat is located is sunny so the roof also features twenty panels of photo-voltaic cells to collect solar energy.

Light and Airy White House Design in the First Line of a Coastline

This house is located on amazing site in the first line of a beautiful coastline of Mallorca. It’s designed by Jaume Riera and Joan Francisco Barceló Ascoli architects in very light and airy style. It’s accessible from both the sea and a back street. The ground floor is designed to enjoy panoramic views of the Mediterranean sea and of the nearby Cabrera island. There is everything needed for a comfortable holiday and living in the house. The design is very well planned. For example, a large courtyard that the house has is protected by service areas and walls from all sides. It features pines that were one the site before the construction. The sea front area is very well protected from the sunlight withot losing ability to catch great views through large glazing. The house’s interior is also great. It’s natural, comfortable and yet contemporary. The place is a real dream to live in.

Located in private guarded area called Hidden Hills this house is great example of luxury. The houses exterior design focuses around an amazing pool. Besides the pool there are beautiful ponds, plants, columns, waterfalls, fountains and other things that make surround landscape very beautiful and sophisticated. The house’s interior is designed in traditional style and features open beam ceilings, walnut/limestone floors and designer baths. Besides that there is a gourmet kitchen, steam shover, oversized family room and other rooms that makes the living as cool as possible. A lot of glass is used around the house to catch natural light when that’s possible. Besides that, the property’s area features basketball court, 4 car garage, circular motor court, french rose gardens and movie theatre. [house's listing]

Modern Japanese Inspired House Design – Zen Garden House

David Jay Weiner, Architects, P.C. was founded with a focus on design and planning with the intention of providing quality architectural services. Their project in the town of Crestone, Colorado is one of examples of their high quality works. With population of 800 people, Crestone become an enclave of spiritual retreats in a past few decades. The house designed by David Jay Weiner is inspired by traditional Japanese architecture but with touch of modern style. This 1600 square feet residence contains three major interior spaces: a great room, which consist of living/dining/kitchen areas, a meditation room and a master bedroom. The exterior envelope consist of black corrugated-metal siding folds. Because of 330 sun days a year house has a photovoltaic panel to collect solar energy. Dream Tropical House Design in Maui by Pete Bossley Architects

Tropical climate is one of those factors which attracts people who want to have a house of their dreams. This house on Maui, Hawaii is one of those houses. It has great open plan where indoor areas are connected to outdoor areas as much as possible. Thanks to that it takes advantage of the sea breezes to naturally ventilate and cool the interior. The house is composed of five separate buildings, linked by broad covered ways and wrapped around an open courtyard. The pool in the courtyard and many small water canals make it possible to hear water flowing from any outdoor patio or terrace which could be found anywhere on the site. Even though the concept of open-plan living is quite typical for tropical houses this house definitely implements all its advantages. It was designed in build with environmentally sustainable design princeps in mind what is on of the main ideologies of Pete Bossley Architects.

Brick Red Environment Friendly Malibu House by Kanner Architects

Vertically stacked and set into a hillside this Malibu house constructed of environmentally friendly and recycled materials. It has brick red color and structure designed to minimize energy use and maximize solar energy using. It has photovoltaic panels on the roof and concrete floors which gather sun’s energy during the day and releasing it at night. The house is built as two rectangular bars – one has two stories while the other has one store over the garage, it has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Most rooms are open on two sides in order to get cross ventilation. Large windows maximize natural light inside of the house to minimize artificial light using. The size of the house is 3300 square feet and thanks to Kanner Architects it became a comfy stunning place to take wonderful views.

Environmentally Sustainable House Design In Santa Barbara by Shubin & Donaldson

This house designed in environmentally sustainable style on a classic Santa Barbara site which is known as “The Rivera”. Relatively small house has everything big mansions around have: two-car garage include open living/dining area, kitchen, master bedroom and bath, guest bedroom and bath, home gym, powder room, two home offices with office bath, outdoor dining area, outdoor lounge areas, lap pool, and 1,400 square feet of lower-level storage. 270-degree view of the Pacific Ocean is used as much as possible starting from courtyard near the pool and ending with desk on the third floor. Environmentally sustainable design features passive solar electricity, solar water and floor heating, natural air flow and nergy-efficient appliances. The house is designed by Shubin & Donaldson.

Dream House Design in Rising Glen by Tocha

Tocha is one those firms with design one-of-a-kind modern living spaces and buildings. This house is one of their works in Rising Glen, LA. It’s one store building but with 4 bedrooms, 4 1/2 bathrooms, two cinemas, wine room, pool and spa, private yoga area and two kitchens. The house is very open to outdoors what have as pros as cons. Some cons are eleminated by 1/2 acre private area around but other of them like depending from temperature are still here. Although having outdoor kitchen, outdoor cinema probably make owners to forget about cons.

The house is also full of hi-tech features like having remote which control everything from temperature and lights to audio and video components all around the house. The lighting system around the house combined to be programmed from one place. The pool has under water audio system and salty water. Everything that is guarded by 24-hour security system which includes motion sensors and cameras. [Tocha]
