Concrete Box House with Glass Platform on the Top

De Blas House is placed at the crest of a north faced hill with views to the mountains near Madrid. The house consists of concrete box build as a platform with a transparent glass box roofed by delicate and light steel structure painted in white on it. The poured-in-place concrete box like a cave houses the living areas of a traditional house separated for private and public spaces. The glass box, placed upon the platform like a hut, is a belvedere to which one rises from within the house. The concrete box is 9 by 27 meters while the glass box is 4.5 x 9 meters by 2.26 meters high. The house attempts to be a literal transaction of tectonic and stereotomic questions: a tectonic piece set upon a stereotomic box. [Alberto Campo Baeza]

Architect’s Island Home – Clingstone House

103-year-old Clingstone mansion set on a rock island in Narragansett Bay is owned by Boston architect Henry Wood. Even though the all-wood home with 360-degree view of the ocean is quite old and rough it’s still warm and beautiful. Three stories tall house features 23 rooms, 10 of which are bedrooms. Even though the house is quite expensive to maintain because of it’s made of wood, it still use modern technologies to cut pay bills. Solar panels heat the water, and a wind turbine on the roof generates electricity. Rainwater is collected in a 3,000-gallon cistern, then filtered, treated and pumped through the house for cleaning purposes. Besides that, Clingstone house use the latest technologies in filtering seawater and the most up-to-date composting toilets. [via freshome, NY]

Unique and Brutal House Design – Volcano House

This house is sited upon small volcanic cone in the high desert midway between Las Vegas & Los Angeles. Its design it is a great combination of an uniqueness and brutality. Its roof consist of concrete and truss beams that forms its dome allowing the interior to embrace 360 degrees of stark, strong almost lunar landscape. Main house has two bedrooms, two baths and open entertaining areas. Besides it there is a guest house with one bedroom and bath near the lake. Even though there aren’t any trees or plants around the house is quite awesome place to live because of its privacy.

House on the Hill Linked to the Landscape – Krater House

The house is situated on the top of a hill on Antiparos, in the Cycladic islands, Greece. There was a lot of challenges in designing it related to its position. First of all there was a need to protect living areas from strong winds of the Aegean Sea and to hide them from the settlement at the foot of the hill. That’s why part of the house was dug into the landscape. In the result, the house is not only protected from wind but only its second store is visible from the village. Stone surfaces defines borders of the Krater house. A 25 meter long lap pool is located at the Krater’s west part which also features amazing sea views. The kitchen’s windows frame views of the pool and its infinity-edge. A courtyard is also protected from winds and is separated from living area only with large glass sliding doors that blur the boundaries between it and the interior space. [Deca architecture]

Modern Wooden House Design with Original Shape

Fro a basic form this house in Utrecht, Netherlands is something that stands out in the countryside landscape. Designed by Amsterdam architect Rocha Tombal, House Bierings has timber-clad and differently shaped windows at various angles on all sides. The house is unusual not only outside. At the ground floor it has the angled ceiling with different shaped openings that provide natural light to interior. The kitchen is the heart of this home. It has big glass wall straight into the garden. The living room at the same time is a quiet, north-lighted attic space, from which a big opening exposes the surrounding green like in a framed painting. Rectangular Concrete House Turned on its Side

Villa Drusch, designed by Claude Parent, famous French modernist is built in 1963 for local industrialist Gaston Drusch. It implements architect’s “theory of oblique architecture” because looks like the home turned on its side. Simple rectangular concrete box become very original living space with tricky angles and open spaces. Outdoor lap pool is placed to give an ability to jump there from bedroom window. Living spaces are encased in aluminum-framed glass, which naturally lights the open interior. A staircase inside follows the slope of the exterior structure. A lot of surfaces inside are also made of concrete. Even though the house is designed a long time ago even today it looks more than contemporary.

Mexico Home with Artificial Bamboo Forest Inside

House 7N2 was recently remodeled by popular Mexican architects, Anonimous-LED. The main feature of this two-store home is an open hall with artificial bamboo forest which rests in the water. Great lighting system make this place look unforgettable in evenings. The hall also helps to make better connection between indoor and outdoor areas by being an extension of the garden. A living room, a dining room, a kitchen and a breakfast nook are all located on the first floor and also open to the surroundings. The second floor includes all private rooms and overlooks the courtyard. Natural floors, bamboo decor elements and marble make the interior quite original and stylish. Old Factory Renovated into Home with Studio

Sunrise Residence by Stephen Jolson is an old factory renovated into beautiful and practical home combined with working studio. Working in such large space is the dream for many people and Stephen manage to implement it in his home. The factory is located in Grattan Gardens Community in Melbourne so it’s surrounded by very green environment. The home is spread on two floors connected by suspended steel staircase, designed as a soft ribbon that traces a path with built-in lighting. The kitchen, living room, playroom and laundry are situated on the first floor. At the second level is the master bedroom with private bath and walk-in wardrobe, kids room, storage room, bathroom and fitness area. Other part of the factory hosts a study of architecture and interior design, with a staff of 12 people. [Jolson Architecture]

The Hall House was designed for a couple without a child in Shiga, Japan which wanted to have enough space for spare time activities on a small site. The house has parking lot, billiard-theater, dining-kitchen and bedroom with bathroom which all are contained in one hall changing their heights according to the slope of the front road. The frame made of reinforced concrete with about 180mm-thick walls in order to create soundproof environment. There are many exclusive things in the Hall’s House interior design like the glass bathroom, not isolated bedroom, rustic yet sophisticated look of concrete walls, unusual sloped roof and so on. House With Sculptural Cast Concrete Facade – Herne Bay House

Stevens Lawson, a New Zeland architect, made a nice contribution to inner Auckland suburb of Herne Bay’s neighbor by creating this house. The house is for a single family and its main contribution to the street where it’s situated is its sculptural facade made of cast concrete. The facade has quite unusual shape and hide private spaces behind it. The house is made of different materials that surprisingly change each other including concrete blocks, dark stained timber and white pre-cast concrete. It has rectangular shape and connects the front courtyard to the back yard. Public areas like living room, dining area and kitchen are situated on the first flor while three bedrooms are on the upper floor along with the terrace which features vies over the harbor.
