Contemporary House with Clean and Simple Plan and Interior

This contemporary house has quite clean and simple plan that draws its inspiration from the unique site, consisting of dense canopy and unencumbered views of the surrounding canyons. Like the site, the house is composed of two distinct and equally appealing parts – private and public – that are defined by a thick interior wall running physically and figuratively through the length of the house and beyond. The interior is also looking very clean thanks to linear shapes, simple materials and carefully placed furniture. Contemporary Mountain Refuge with Smart Use of Space in Extreme Weather Conditions

This house is designed by dRN Architects (Nicolás del Río and Max Núñez) and located in Farellones, Las Condes, Chile. It’s built on 140 square meters site in the middle of a slope, 7.5 meters below the level of the road. There isn’t a lot of vegetation at 2000 meters high but there are few trees around the house. The refuge is a monolithic volume of stone that hasn’t much window openings on the first level. Although the windows that are there frame beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. The upper volume is almost transparent and serves as an access area that acts as a lamp during the night.

The interior is done in plywood cladding for a warmer atmosphere in the inside. The first floor has 4 small bedrooms, the second floor with consists of common space with four areas for eating, playing, sitting and cooking, and the third floor is for access and has enough space to store all that mountain equipment. The house is great example of maximum use of space in extreme weather conditions.

The Smart Home 2010 – Renovated Chicago’s Greenest House

The Smart Home is the Chicago’s greenest house located on the ground of the Museum of Science and Industry. It’s opened to public from 2008 but recently was renovated by Midwest Living. The home is designed to reflect the lifestyle of an empty-nester couple and features soft, organic textures and colors fused with a contemporary style — as well as unique green technologies for the 21st century. It shows that you can build the house that has great spaces for entertaining, a master bedroom that serves as a retreat, a whimsical nursery/playroom for a visiting grandchild and a functional home office on a standard Chicago city lot.

A highlight of the first floor is the wood and polished concrete dining room table, made by Chicago furniture designer Keelin Kennedy, from the wood of a 100-year-old bur oak tree that fell on the Museum’s property in 2009. Chicago artist Terry Karpowicz has also made a headboard, coffee table and three side tables from the tree for use in the home.

Upstairs, soft greens and blues symbolize new beginnings and renewed energy. The master bedroom and bath are designed as a personal retreat for the couple, featuring a bamboo bed with organic bedding. The master bath boasts a walk-in shower with gorgeous glass tile made from recycled wine bottles, sleek sinks created from recycled porcelain, low-flow showerheads and dual-flush toilets.

Throughout the home the lighting design by GE Lighting helps to expand the mood of the interior design. Bringing the natural lighting of outdoors in, using the newest Energy Star-qualified CFL and LED bulbs, gives the Smart Home up to 75 percent more energy savings when compared to incandescent bulbs.

Ultra Modern House with 3 Levels and Ocean Views from Everywhere

This ultra-modern house has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms located only 250 meters from a beach. There are three levels with open terraces and large floor-to-ceiling windows so the house features uninterrupted ocean views almost from every its part. The top level is perfect for an entertaining because beside amazing views from the deck it features a bar, a toilet and a lounge area with LCD TV. There is also one more lounge area on the ground level where watching TV is also possible. The fully equipped kitchen features ultra modern Miele appliances. Besides that there are plenty other high-tech things in the house like a remote controlled ceiling fan system, security system, and so on. The outdoor entertaining area is also great thanks to the illuminated 12×4 meter pool. This house could be booked for spending a weekend there.

Modern House Designed to Catch All Views Around It

This beautiful house is designed by Gudmundur Jonsson in the countryside of Iceland. The design’s main purpose is to catch all beautiful views around it in all directions: towards south the view to the sea and islands, towards north the characteristic triangular mountain, towards east the glacier and towards west the river and canyon. The exterior is consist of large glazings, natural wood and stone bricks. That makes the house blends better with the site. The interior is done in modern minimalist style. Contemporary House Filled with Natural Light and Black & White Exterior

This contemporary house is located Candamo, Spain, and designed by OmasC architects. It’s relatively new and was built in 2009. The rural site features enough parking space near by which is connected with the house via stone slabs resting on the ground. The house consists of two pieces joined to one another and serve as day and as night zones. They both features a lot of small windows and transparent sliding doors so the house is filled with natural light all day long. H2Office – Small Floating Prefab Office

The H2Office was originally conceived as a floating office unit. Although its design is quite versatile so it could be remodeled and used in many other ways. It could become a living place, a meeting/working area, a play room, a dining area and so on. As the office the unit provides enough space for one or two people to work in comfort. It also features plenty of storage space, an external sun desk to relax after a meal on a kitchenette, and a pull-out bed for ocassional overnight stays. Extras includes a microwave oven, fridge, wind turbine, solar panels, flat-panel tv, air conditioning and so on. The price starts from £59,950 ($135,000).

This cliff-side villa is part of Banyan Tree Cabo Marqués resort in Mexico. Thanks to its location and floor to ceiling windows it captures amazing romantic views of Acapulco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It’s designed with a distinctively Asian flavor, with steeply pitched roofs, wide eaves, and the entire villa built on stilts. Cutting edge pool is located on a airy terrace which also features all these amazing views. Family Holiday Home with Winged Roof Lines and Ocean View

This family holiday home is designed to accomodate several families at once. It’s focused towards expansive ocean views and has winged roof lines. The exterior and interior color palette is soft which perfectly integrates the house into the steeply slopping site. There aren’t clear border between outdoor and indoor areas. The second floor has large terrace which is designed to have BBQ all together while catching beautiful views. Thanks to many large windows and transparent sliding doors these views could also be enjoyed from everywhere in the house. While the color palette is chosen to be neutral the overall interior design is made in contemporary style with all necessary features for having a great holiday. [ DDA ]
