Three Level Waterfront Modern Home – Bainbridge Island Residence

This residence is designed by BUILD LLC on Bainbridge Island, Washington. The three-level waterfront home has modern design optimized for the family lifestyle. Family activities, entertaining, exercising, wine-making and kayaking on Murden Cove below are those activities that the family do in their free time. The house emphasizes frame views, strategic privacy and the filtration of light, while effectively integrating the sloping site with the surrounding landscape and exterior terraces. Interesting material combination was used in the house’s structure. Wood, concrete and glazing could be seen near by from every side of the building. Inside, wood is prioritized to create the feeling of the comfort and cosy living. [BUILD LLC]

House With 1600 SF Addition And Glass Gasket Between Them

Belyea Faigin residence is located between Ballard and Phinney Ridge. The house is a home for an artist Gary Faigin, his wife and their two children. Originally it had been an 1936 year’s building that was accompanied by a new three story, 1600 square feet addition. The lowest level is Gary’s studio, the middle level is the living/dining room and the top floor is a new master suite. The original structure is connected to the addition by the glassy gasket. The original beveled siding slides from outside to inside marking the transition between old and new. The new portion is emphatically modern in its use of materials, structure and detail but the gable roof and areas of wood siding make it sympathetic to the character of the old house. The design concept allowed to use simple forms, aluminum windows, vivid paint colors and sleek but modest finishes. The addition has allowwed the family to work, entertain and live in one place. 19th-Century Cottage Renovated In American Shingle-Style House

Renovating a summer19th-century cottage on Cape Cod into a permanent home was quite a task for Polhemus Savery DaSilva architects. The house was enlarged to provide space for a large family and all their ceramic, works of art, antique collections and so on. Georgian architecture influenced the new front facade – and the concept of a house wrapping around three sides of a large formal courtyard. This courtyard, which incorporates a circular driveway, is accessed beneath an enclosed bridge that links the original cottage wing with a new garage building and television room. The other wing of the house provides a two-story library tower and a second master suite. Where the front is an expanded and formalized “cape”, the back, facing an ocean cove and the open ocean in the distance, is more irregular, more massive, and shaped around maximizing water views. It is more in the tradition of a grand shingle-style cottage. [Polhemus Savery DaSilva]

Wind Protected House with Glazed Walls

Ohana House at Niulii is one of the houses that are located on Hawaiian hilltops to catch all amazing views around but protected from constant 10-40-knot-per-hour winds. The roofs are pitched to match the angle of the hill on which the house sits, sheltering the courtyard from the elements. Large glazed walls capture not only views of beautiful nature around but also the ocean. They also make the house interior be filled with natural light during the day. The building is anchored to the land on a rock base through steel tie downs that are visually laced into the rafters and pinned into the stone foundation. [Cutler Anderson Architects]

House with Four Courtyards – The Purchase Residence

This house is located in Westchester Country, New York, a forested landscape that has been highly developed with small cities, suburbs, highways and roads. The Purchase Residence is designed with four courtyards, which capture as many views as possible while not being overwhelmed by the noise of a near interstate highway. The four-courtyard scheme separated the house to five areas: formal living, diving, kitchen pavilion that looks out on the landscape from every side; a bedroom wing; a study wing; an office wing; a guest wing. The house’s exterior walls were laid with roughened stone faces and then polished smooth when they turned inward to become formal part of the residence. [Cutler Anderson Architects]

Concrete Box House with Glass Platform on the Top

De Blas House is placed at the crest of a north faced hill with views to the mountains near Madrid. The house consists of concrete box build as a platform with a transparent glass box roofed by delicate and light steel structure painted in white on it. The poured-in-place concrete box like a cave houses the living areas of a traditional house separated for private and public spaces. The glass box, placed upon the platform like a hut, is a belvedere to which one rises from within the house. The concrete box is 9 by 27 meters while the glass box is 4.5 x 9 meters by 2.26 meters high. The house attempts to be a literal transaction of tectonic and stereotomic questions: a tectonic piece set upon a stereotomic box. [Alberto Campo Baeza]

Two Townhouses Half Block From the Beach – Alki Townhomes

This project by Johnston Architects PLLC consists of two townhouses located a half block from the beach. They are locate in the Alki neighborhood in Seattle. Both houses have three bedroom with two master suites and equipped by a two-car garage. Glass facade and the rooftop desks capture views of the neighborhood, Seattle’s cityscape and the beach. Master bedrooms has an access to these terraces and large glass walls so they also capture some of these views. With spacious living spaces and quality finishes such as glulam beam framing, bamboo floor, marble countertops and fir cabinetry, the Alki Townhouses are both beautiful and practical. House That Consists of Two Simple Cubes on a Remote Site

This house is located on a remote 10 acre site in Central Oregon. Only trees surround it. The house consists of two simple cubes, one for sleeping and one for living. The sleeping box is low & burrowed into earth, while the living box floats above, hovering just at treetop level. Thanks to its position, the living area has awesome views. The house’s exterior is covered with durable and fire proofed materials. A lot of “green” technologies are used in the house. All rainwater could be harvested & stored for landscaping or firefighting purposes. Tube solar water heaters efficiently provide most of the heating for the home through in-floor radiant tubing. The buildings narrow profile and extensive glazing combined with the regions low humidity allow for passive cooling of the home. [PIQUE]

Modern Minimalist House Design in Singapore by Ong & Ong

Designed by Ong & Ong, this house in Singapore is one of the greatest examples of modern and minimalist house design. Even though it’s so contemporary it also is very well balanced with nature. The concept of the design is to create open and filled with light living space which also has some privacy. The first floor has glazed walls that leads directly to the pool. This pool with a garden near by separates house for two pieces and is a perfect place to relax and spent time with friends and family. The entire second floor in the main section of the house is allocated for a master bedroom/study space with an en suite bathroom.
