House With 1600 SF Addition And Glass Gasket Between Them

Belyea Faigin residence is located between Ballard and Phinney Ridge. The house is a home for an artist Gary Faigin, his wife and their two children. Originally it had been an 1936 year’s building that was accompanied by a new three story, 1600 square feet addition. The lowest level is Gary’s studio, the middle level is the living/dining room and the top floor is a new master suite. The original structure is connected to the addition by the glassy gasket. The original beveled siding slides from outside to inside marking the transition between old and new. The new portion is emphatically modern in its use of materials, structure and detail but the gable roof and areas of wood siding make it sympathetic to the character of the old house. The design concept allowed to use simple forms, aluminum windows, vivid paint colors and sleek but modest finishes. The addition has allowwed the family to work, entertain and live in one place. Modern Minimalist House Design in Singapore by Ong & Ong

Designed by Ong & Ong, this house in Singapore is one of the greatest examples of modern and minimalist house design. Even though it’s so contemporary it also is very well balanced with nature. The concept of the design is to create open and filled with light living space which also has some privacy. The first floor has glazed walls that leads directly to the pool. This pool with a garden near by separates house for two pieces and is a perfect place to relax and spent time with friends and family. The entire second floor in the main section of the house is allocated for a master bedroom/study space with an en suite bathroom. This Northwest 11000 square feet contemporary home is the result of desire for privacy, love of nature, and deep appropriation for craftsmanship and design. The site and landscape around allow owners to enjoy their love of animals, including horses, and gardening. There are plenty of different materials were used in house’s construction: concrete for many walls and floors, basalt for countertops, stainless steel, Douglas Fir and so on. This modern Backyard House is designed by SHED architects. Overlooking downtown Seattle and Elliott Bay it is full of inspiring spaces and ideas. Contemporary House With A Loft Like Space On The Main Floor

This contemporary house is designed by Seattle based Vandeventer + Carlander Architects for family of six. It is located in a prestigious neighborhood and organized vertically by activity – children’s on the ground floor, public on the main floor, and private family functions above. Service functions are located on the northern side within a volume defined by its external envelope of Corten rusted steel. This two-story enclosure accommodates the every-day needs of the family. The main level is a “loft” like space with glazing on three sides. This public space gives not only space for entertaining but also to display a large collection of contemporary art. Modern Wood House Design – M + M2 House

Designed by Klaus Matuschka this modern wood house is located near Los Angeles. It is surrounded by a lot of trees like oaks and cinnamon. Thanks to that the house is hidden on a small site among them even though it’s located on the highest position. The ground floor is made of reinforced concrete and steel while the second floor mostly done in timber. The first floor consist of public areas while bedrooms and other private space on the second one. There are several terraces around the house and one of them developed especially for barbecue. This home is a perfect modern dot in the middle of a beautiful nature.

Concrete and Steel Modern Interior Design

This interior is a great example of how modern could be 1930s house inside. The 2200 square feet house is located on exposed site high above the city in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Even though the interior is sleek, muscular and contemporary it’s also Mediterranean-style archways and tile roof. Concrete and steel were added in interior during the house renovation. Coutertops, sinks, tubs, fireplaces and most walls are made of concrete. The walnut was used for floors, cabinets and a large dining table. During renovation many rooms were remade in order to catch more daylight. A two-story concrete wall on the low level features a beautiful water cascade which flows into a pool. [Schuchart/Dow]

Contemporary House with Fully Glazed First Floor

This contemporary house is collaboration between Brendeland & Kristoffersen Architects and Simen Stori. The building is 120 square meters with public areas located on the first of two floors. These areas are opened to the surroundings in quite unusual way. All external walls one this floor are fully glazed. Everything other is located on the second floor which is more than usual. As the whole house it has rectangle shape with small windows on the perimeter. External walls are painted in black in order to contrast with surroundings during the winter. Modern Urban Green Loft Design – Mosler Lofts

Modern lofts could be found in any contemporary megalopolis. Seattle is one of those cities and Mosler Lofts is a great example of the 150 loft designs located near the historically vibrant city’s center. From inside to out, the project includes a number of green features which have managed to won some prestige awards. There are as one as two-bedroom units with natural ventilation, 10-foot ceilings and windows that maximize natural light. The roof of the 12-store building is also green because it filters rainwater and provides enough space for a solar array. It’s also a beautiful gathering place. LED lights are used for a variety of exterior lighting. Everything that makes these lofts one of the first LEED-awarded condominium in Seattle. [Mithun]
