Small Iron Wood Prefab Houses with Butterfly Roof in Thailand

TYIN Tegnestue is a group of student architects which designed Soe Ker Tie Hias project in Noh Bo, Tak, Thailand. The project’s name translation is “Butterfly houses”. The project includes 6 small prefab houses made of iron wood (tropic timber). These houses provide accommodation for 50 local children. The project earned its name because of flip-up house’s roof design that enables effective natural ventilation while collecting rainwater for re-use. All houses are prefabricated and assembled on-site, using bolts to ensure reasonable precision and strength. The project was finished in February 2009 and become great experience as for the students as for locals who helped in construction. Important principles like bracing, material economization and moisture prevention that was learned may possibly lead to a more sustainable building tradition in the future. Environmentally Friendly Modular Built Home – The EcoFabulous Home

This award-winning environmentally friendly modular built home is a project by Architecton and Shelter Industries. The 1,400 square feet v-shaped vacation home is the result of the growing interest in preserving environmental resources by using reclaimed, recycled and sustainable materials and products. The house’s exterior is made of cedar and steel cladding with custom-fabricated metal roof. Windows are designed to save energy like other energy-efficient appliances in the house. The roof is designed to collect rain water. Modular construction helps to cut construction budget.

The kitchen/great room wing and bedroom wing, linked at the main entry and by the courtyard deck, provide multiple accesses to the deck. The surrounding landscape features drought-resistant grasses and plants, thus conserving water. The house is designed to make the border between indoor and outdoor transparent. [EcoFabulous Home]

Bunker House Made of Prefab Concrete Blocks – Haus Bold

This house which looks like some kind of bunker is a private residence designed by Thomas Bendel. It’s made of prefabricated concrete blocks besides its front and back which are done in glass and black anodized aluminum. Behind house entrance is a ten meters long staircase with a steel handrail. The living area is a large space which hides kitchen behind high gloss maple walls with black oak joints. Other walls are made of raw concrete which are in contrast with pure black floors. Through the windows around the house a lot of landscape views are captured. Even the bathroom has such views but couldn’t be viewed from the outside. [Thomas Bendel]

Prefab House on the Hill in Remote Location

This complex prefab house is located on the top of the hill near Granite Falls, Washington, about an hour outside of Seattle. The site has a lot of beauty around but doesn’t have electricity, water or roads. Because of conditions prefabricated structure was choose to overcome the difficult nature of the site. The frame is made of steel covered with 4-by-22-foot panels, acting as walls. The panels follow a simple pattern that leaves open space for dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the house which capture awesome views around. A lot of elements around the house are custom made by artists which happened to be friends of the owner. Even though prefab houses usually are simple and not different from each other, this house designed by Anderson Anderson Architecture became a truly unique home.

Prefab Country Cedar House by Hudson Architects

Cedar House by Hudson Architects is their answer to modern prefab building technologies. It’s situated in the countryside of North Elmham, on the river Wensum and perfectly fit surround landscape. The house is inspired by simple forms of functional farm buildings and consist of two bedrooms and the room which could be as guest room as home office. There is also a dark room and studio because owner of the home is a photographer. Floors, walls and roofing made of prefabricated timber and was very quick to assemble. The house have 4m x 2m window and an 8m line of glazed doors which extending the living room on to a raised desk. The building is covered by 15,000 untreated cedar shingles which are very cost effective to use. [Hudson Architects]

Boxhome – All Weather Modern Prefab House

The weather in the North Europe is not very stable. Usually the houses should be heated more than half year in a row. For example, the weather in Oslo, Norway is cold and unpredictable so Rintal Eggertsson Architects created great 19m² prefab house which is easy to heat and has stylish appeal. The project is called Boxhome and is more ecological and economical friendly than common house construction. Even though such house isn’t an option for main family house, it’s great as summer house or cottage. The prefab house has four rooms covering the basic living functions: kitchen with dining, bathroom, living room and bedroom. Prefab homes are become more and more popular nowadays. They started from the small and simple ones and became contemporary houses with everything that need inside. Cottage in a Day is the next generation of factory-built, energy-efficient, green homes based on a 14 foot square module. The cottages are built using structural insulated panels for floor, walls and roof, creating an extremely energy efficient building envelope. It comes in different variations with different additional modules. It takes about 5 hours to assemble the modules and get ready to live house. The project is designed by Michael Fitzhugh.
