Restoration of Historic Farmhouse from Elizabethan Period

Restoration of this historic farmhouse from Elizabethan period was made in 2004-2005. As the owner claims, renovating buildings of this age is never easy but the results are extremely rewarding. The building has become a modern living space suitable for 21st century.
Park Farm was suffering from a potentially lethal case of rot, due to timbers decaying and other things related to its age. Some of these defective timbers were removed, some replaced and some joints were also added and remade. The interiors has been updated to more contemporary wood materials. The kitchen were made of chestnut and beautiful handcrafted staircase and bathroom furniture were made of walnut. The house has become a very comfortable and beautiful place to live in. [Source]

Very Small House Mostly Made of Natural Wood

This house is designed by the Japanese architect Ikuyo Nakama. It’s quite small and has only everything what is truly necessary for perfect weekends away from a work and people. The house mostly done in rich natural wood. Only its frame is made of concrete. The interior doesn’t hide anything so walls and floors is a pure combination of concrete and wood. The house has a one big room which is connected with a attic and a very very small kitchen. Although who want to spent their weekend cooking when can just sit under the sun and relax? [Ikuyo Nakama]

Modular Constructed House With A Tight Budget

Trestle House is one of those houses that has a very tight budget and very difficult construction conditions. It’s located on a steeply slopping sight so innovative structural systems and modular construction were used. Its name is chose due to the foundation system while the budget economy was achieved by the use of a 12’ x 16’ grid creating a short structural span and standard 4’ x 8’ sheets of plywood which is a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Japanese Tatami mat module. These material looks very natural even though it isn’t and comfy for living. The interior continuous the theme of naturalism so materials that were used there are wood, stone and their imitations. Modern Remodel Of The Post War Split Level House Into A Five Level House

This modern remodel is a remodel of post war split-level house into a comfortable living place which provides space for all everyday tasks like listing to music, catching up on e-mail, cooking, doing laundry and hanging out with family and friends. The stair was open up, the roof was raised and the fifth level was added to accommodate all activities the owner wanted to.
The exterior of the house is clad in low-maintenance fiber-cement siding with stained wood accents and inexpensive thermal-break aluminum windows. The interior is also done in mostly natural materials and steel. It is also is designed to be quite transparent in order to give some space for displaying art and some opportunities to catch outside views from all around the house. [DeForest Architects]

Modern Wooden House Designed Around a Deck

Deck House is an another great project by Chilean architect Felipe Assadi. Like some other his projects and a lot of other houses in Chile it has an open plan and large gazing in order to make nature around it more closer. Although the house also has a beautiful and practical desk which isn’t usually as big as this one. Like the whole house it’s made of wood and has built-in swimming pool. It is also has an inclined area which is a perfect place to sunbathing without a lounge chair. The deck is connected to the house’s floor to form a wood-clad object with glass that connects it. A living area, a kitchen and a dining room are combined to save some space without losing in spaciousness. [Felipe Assadi]

House Entirely Made of Wood and Protected from Nature Disasters

Muelle house is located on the big island of Chiloe, Chilie. It’s designed by Jonas Retamal and overlooks the Castro’s fjord. The region has very unstable weather so the house, which is siting on 28% slope, is protected from the fire, cold, wet weather and other disaster the nature could cause. Probably Muelle house is one of the last houses in the region made entirely of wood. A lot of native wood taken from a near forests: peanuts, tepa and ulmo. Thanks to their difference there are plenty of different colors with similar theme inside and outside the house. There are three volumes in the house. The first one includes service areas and a barbecue place. Two other levels features bedrooms and other private rooms for parents and their 6 children and are connected by common area with combines a kitchen, a dining room and a living room with large terrace.
