On September exhibition Maison&Objet in Paris Belgian company Extremis has charmed everybody by its romantic novelty Romeo & Jiliet. This is no ordinary bench, which is not only comfortable to sit but also is cool way to make your environment more green. It is made of long strips of wood and its size is 320 cm x 74 cm. The main feature what differs this bench from any usual one is two round holes in the seat. These holes create rooms for large flowerpots, which are the legs too. They have a nice shine and beautiful contrast with the mat wood. Both flowerpots contain small nice trees. These trees as Romeo and Juliet could not be with each other and couldn’t live without each other at the same time. “Get Green” project is a collaboration work between fashion house of Sportmax and BODUM which shows that they both share similar interests in design. The result of the work is a series of 9 minimalistic flowerpots in different shapes and sizes. They would be great choice for customer that thinks green and want to decorate his contemporary living space. The flowerpots are made of stoneware and the come in a cylindrical, conical and square shape with matching saucers. Saucers have the rubber finish which protect against scratching floors, tables or window sills. Crossway – Zero Carbon House in UK

This two weeks ago finished house is the new eco-home in UK which shows the combination of the latest technologies for energy saving with techniques dating back to medieval times. Technique of construction was used for the first time in Spain in 1382, known as the Catalan vault system. Low arch made of many layers of bricks glued to each other, with different orientation courses in order to achieve robustness without requiring additional support structures. It is designed by Richard Hawkes also as one of the first zero carbon houses in the UK. The house is harnessing solar energy to generate all its own electricity and thermal energy. The building demonstrates how contemporary design can celebrate local materials and crafts and integrate new technologies to produce a highly sustainable building that sits lightly on the Earth. Modern Extension for London Home

Crawford Partnership, a London based architecture firm, is responsible for adding modern extension to home in busy part of the city close to Camden Town. The extension includes an open kitchen and dining room with an extra bedroom and office above it. The roof of the extension is covered in sedum, which is very popular in Germany for green roofs. Such roof is not only makes positive impact to the ecology but also creates a great view from top store of the original house. Creating such extension in the garden covered with walls made it more enclosed and private. The walls also reduced noise from the busy city streets.

The extension is constructed from glass and Prodema Lignum, an architectural cladding material made from resin-bonded cellulose fiber, covered in a wood veneer and an acrylic finish. The Prodema panels are very durable and weather resistant, not to mention very modern in look and design.

EVE – energy usage monitoring and control system

EVE is an interactive domestic energy usage monitoring and control system. It consists of a primary interface which connects to a series of nodes which measure the energy usage of devices around the home. The interface displays this information on the various appliances around the house, and provides the ability to turn these devices off and on.

The interface is designed to be as simple as possible. It uses groups of low power LED’s, glowing from green to red (as power use increases) to indicate devices in the system. A central screen which can be slid over the top of any of these groups of LED’s is used to give more detailed feedback.
