This house with a unique shape and an outer shell is located in Chile and presents amazing views of the sea and mountains
This unique-looking house is called Almost Cube House and was built by LAND Arquitectos in Chile. The shape of the house is an abstract deformation of a parallelepiped volume.
The house is located on a privileged western slope of the coastal mountain. LAND’s idea is to optimize the views of the sea, maximizing northern sunlight and protecting the house from the south wind. To do that they structured the volume in pinewood with a truss system that delineates the principal lines of the inside spaces, reflected in the roof and the exterior façade. The skin also creates some private outdoor spaces that feel more secluded. The shell or first skin seeks to provide comfort in a protected space. It is developed in SIP — structural insulated panel — for floors, walls and roof, and thermopanel crystals.
The meeting room, which includes a kitchen, a living room and a dining zone, is oriented to the north, protected from the wind and optimizing the sunlight. It is covered — not totally — with a wooden skin that evidences the passage of day in a constant change of lights and shadows.
The house has glazed walls, so the privacy is achieved only with the shell. The decor is contemporary, even minimalist – all the spaces feel airy and vast and there’s minimum of furniture. Everything is centered around the views, so nothing covers the glazed walls to fully enjoy the sunlight and views.
The house got a shell to protect it from the wind, which is very strong here and to create some very private outer spaces

Benches come along the shell, and there's a fire pit, so this deck is a great outdoor space to spend time
