When I first saw this lamp in black, I thought ‘wow’! The design is very stylish, eye-catching and cool! Designer Jonathan Dorthe created this Black Penta Lamp, and it’s a new wrinkle to suspension luminaires. Five bends form the pentagonal silhouette that gives the piece its name, while the look was inspired by the formal simplicity and artistic execution of the art of origami. The material chosen by Dorthe to effect this manipulation is simple black matte acrylic—resilient enough to undergo the requisite bends, attractive enough to draw admiration, elusive enough to proffer a bit of mystery. The sides are perforated, which allow the light to escape in a diffuse pattern.
