Life: A 3D Heart-Shaped Pendant Lamp

unique pendant lamp design

This unique pendant lamps is inspired by a human's heart and really shows off its shape

Designers get inspired by more and more unusual things, and today’s piece is inspired by people’s hearts and life itself. As people age, their heart rate decreases by about one beat per minute. With this as a guide, Estudio Guto Requena looked to the cycle of life as inspiration for its newest creation: the Life Lamp.

To make the lamp, the Sao Paulo-based design studio collected audio files from three different subjects: a baby still in the womb, a 35 year old, and an 80 year old. Designers then sent this information through a software system that drew lines resembling a rhizone based on the collected data, which were then 3D printed to make three different sized lamps.

The faster the heartbeat, the thicker the lines, making the lamp of the baby’s heartbeat more condensed and tightly wound than that of the elderly person. Not only does each pendant light illuminate a space, but it also sheds light on the pulse that gives us life. This is a unique idea for any space and it’s sure to become a conversation starter.
